VLC Media Player (formerly VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, etc.) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.


What’s new:

Version 0.8.6h: This is a bugfix release. VLC media player 0.8.6g (a source code release) and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the libraries GnuTLS, libgcrypt and libxml2. VLC media player 0.8.6f and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the Mozilla and ActiveX plugins, in the libpng, libid3tag, libvorbis libraries and in the Speex codec. Technical details are available in our security advisories. This update also includes reliability improvements in multiple modules. More information can be found in the release notes for 0.8.6g and 0.8.6h. We strongly recommend all users to update to this new version.
